Warn is well-known for its durability. One more 10,000 lb winch from Warn made it to the list. This is a more affordable option than the previous one. But do not doubt its performance even for a second. A winch with the exceptional build quality, like its elder brother, had a pulling capacity of 10,000 lbs.
This lightweight and powerful winch comes with a 100 feet flexible synthetic rope and a wired remote with 12 ft cable length. It has an aluminum drum, making it even lighter in weight and reducing rope wear while winding.

Buyer’s Guide
You may be overwhelmed by so many options available in the market and wondering which 10,000 lb winch is suitable for you and what things you should keep in mind when buying them. Well, there are four main features you should always look for when buying a winch.
These four main features are:
- Types of rope
- Electric vs hydraulic machine
- Warranty
- Water-proof
Types of rope
There are two types of ropes available for winches. Steel ropes and synthetic ropes.
Steel Cable
The steel cable used in winches is aircraft-grade steel cables which are durable but heavier than synthetic ropes. Steel ropes are better if muddy, rocky, or sandy terrains, as they are less prone to scuffing and fraying. It is a more affordable option and requires less maintenance. Although keep in mind that it can rust and develop sharp burrs over time. As it burns, it requires gloves to operate.
Synthetic Rope
Synthetic ropes are made from hi-tech polyethylene, considered safer than steel ropes. These are significantly lighter and more flexible than steel ropes, making them easy to handle. Also, it doesn’t develop burrs as it wears; hence safer and can be handled without gloves, although always recommended.
Electric vs hydraulic machine
Differently powered winches are available in the market, and the major ones are electric and hydraulic winches.
A hydraulic winch gets its power from a hydraulic system, and it is easy to install but makes loud noise during the recovery process. While on the other hand, electric winches use electricity as their power source and are comparatively quieter and environment friendly.
Hydraulic winches are lighter in weight as they don’t have a motor. Hence overheating is not an issue means no need to cool down during recovery operations. They have more pulling power than electric ones. You don’t need to worry about waterproofing; they can submerge in water completely and work fine. Although to operate a hydraulic winch, you must keep your vehicle engine on.
An electric winch has an electric motor connected to the drum, which takes power from the vehicle’s battery. There’s no need to keep the engine on, but you may also lose the complete power of the vehicle’s battery, leaving it stranded.
Warranty
You should always look for a warranty while purchasing the winch. Spare parts are expensive and may not be easily available. Also, check what is covered in the warranty and what is not; what are the rates of spare parts not covered in the warranty?
There are some reviews on websites where people get broken winch parts, or the machine is not working at all. Thus, if you are planning to purchase it online, check for a warranty in case of a mishap. A few minutes of this research may save you a lot of money and time.
Waterproof
Waterproofing is a major feature to look for in a winch. Depending on your area and where you go for off-roading, deciding whether you require a water-proof winch or a non-waterproof can work.
Water-proof winches come with IP ratings; no rating means the winch is not waterproof.
IP67 means the machine can survive underwater up to 1 meter and for 30 minutes
And IP68 means the machine can survive underwater up to 1.5 meters and for 45 minutes.
Verdict
Out of above mentioned 7 winches, WARN ZEON PLATINUM 10 S is a clear winner. Consider it if you do off-roading often and go to terrain where winches are frequently required.
If you rarely go off-roading and just consider it for safety purposes, Champion winch makes a good option. It’s affordable as well as best in quality.
